As we approach the 13th matchday of the men’s first division, the season is moving at full speed! Treaty United's men's team will make the long trek north to face Finn Harps this Friday in the hopes to keep their momentum alive. If you’ve missed some of the recent action, here’s a quick recap on how Treaty United has been faring in their recent fixtures.
April 18th: Treaty United 1-1 Dundalk FC
Treaty United went into their clash with Dundalk brimming with quiet confidence. After previously denying the league leaders all three points earlier in the season, expectations were high. The return leg at the Markets Field turned into a tense, cagey affair with little action in the first 70 minutes. Dundalk’s Daryl Horgan finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, but Treaty didn’t give up. Substitute Yoyo Mahdy, assisted by Trpimir Vrljicak, scored to earn a well-deserved point for the Limerick side. With the 1-1 draw, Treaty remained the only team to have prevented Dundalk from winning, and this feat would stand until Finn Harps replicated it the following Monday.
April 21st: Wexford FC 2-0 Treaty United
After the solid result against Dundalk, Treaty United traveled to the east coast hoping to build on their momentum. Changes in the lineup saw Chris Horgan make his season debut alongside Darren Nwankwo in defense. However, Wexford stunned Treaty with two quick goals early on. Despite their best efforts, Treaty couldn’t find a way back into the match, and the hopes of a dramatic comeback like the one against Dundalk quickly faded.
April 25th: Treaty United 1-0 Athlone Town
This was a must-win game for Treaty after their slip out of the playoff positions following the defeat to Wexford. With history on their side, having thrashed Athlone 5-0 earlier in the season, thanks to a Lee Devitt hat-trick and goals apiece from Ben Lynch and Mark Byrne, Treaty were determined to get back on track. The match lacked major excitement, but in the 71st minute, Yoyo Mahdy, assisted by Karl O’Sullivan, scored the only goal of the game, securing three crucial points. The victory was especially meaningful for Mahdy, who had been in fine form, scoring in three of his last four games. Additionally, Lee Devitt received his “Goal of the Month” award for February, which came against Athlone in the reverse fixture, a fitting tribute after his fantastic performance earlier in the season.
This Bank Holiday weekend brings a thrilling encounter to the Markets Field, as Treaty United welcomes Shelbourne FC for the first time this season. If you’ve missed some of the recent league and cup action, here’s a recap of how the squad has been shaping up.
April 12th: Treaty United 3-0 Sligo Rovers
After a two-week break, Treaty United returned to the Markets Field brimming with energy and confidence. They faced a Sligo Rovers team struggling for form, and Treaty quickly took control of the match. The breakthrough came just before halftime, when Bella Flocchini chipped the Sligo goalkeeper to score her fourth goal of the season. Treaty’s dominance continued in the second half, with Madelyn Robbins doubling their lead in the 71st minute after a sharp move involving Cara Griffin. Amy Tierney completed the comfortable 3-0 win with a fine goal in the 84th minute, sealing a solid performance.
April 19th: Athlone Town 3-1 Treaty United
Facing reigning champions Athlone Town was always going to be a challenge, and Treaty found themselves in a difficult spot. After a tense first half, Madelyn Robbins put Treaty ahead just before the break, continuing her fine form. However, her apparent second goal was ruled out for offside, and soon after, Athlone capitalised on the momentum shift. They scored three quick goals in the second half to turn the game around and seal the victory, leaving Treaty to reflect on what could have been.
April 26th: Treaty United 0-0 Waterford FC (All-Island Cup)
In their latest All-Island Cup outing, Treaty welcomed Waterford FC to the Markets Field. With Glentoran’s 1-0 win over Athlone the evening before, the Limerick side knew a victory would give them a significant boost in the group stage. Treaty controlled most of the match, but despite creating several chances, they couldn’t find a breakthrough. Waterford also missed some key opportunities late in the game. In the end, the match ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw, meaning the next two fixtures will be crucial for both teams’ hopes of advancing.
