Limerick Clubs Learn Their Fate in Upcoming FAI Cup Fixtures

By Emma Dineen

Three Limerick soccer teams have learned their opponents for the upcoming rounds of the FAI Cup, with several exciting ties set to light up the local football scene in the weeks ahead.

Treaty United Men Draw Derry City in Home Tie

Treaty United’s senior men’s side will host Premier Division giants Derry City in the second round of the FAI Cup.

This fixture is a rematch of their memorable 2022 semi-final clash, where goals from Jamie McGonigle and Brandon Kavanagh gave Derry a narrow 2-1 win, despite Enda Curran’s 30th-minute penalty for Treaty.

Having finished as runners-up in last year’s competition, Derry will be determined to go one better this season. For Treaty, it’s a chance at redemption, and with home advantage at the Markets Field, they’ll be looking to cause an upset.

The match is scheduled for the weekend ending Sunday, July 20th.

Fairview Rangers to Host Shelbourne in High-Profile Clash

FAI Junior Cup champions Fairview Rangers will welcome seven-time FAI Cup winners Shelbourne FC to Limerick in what promises to be a thrilling and historic fixture.

Damien Duff’s Shelbourne side, currently pushing at the top end of the Premier Division, will come into the tie as strong favourites, but Fairview will be relishing the chance to test themselves against elite opposition.

The game will take place at Fairview’s newly revamped ground, marking a major occasion for the club and its supporters. A large local turnout is expected, with kick-off set for the weekend of July 20th.

Treaty United Women Face Ferns United in Familiar Clash

Treaty United’s senior women’s side will kick off their FAI Cup campaign with a home tie against non-league Ferns United from Wexford.

The same two sides met in last year’s competition, with Treaty running out 9-0 winners thanks to goals from Katie Lawlee, Delana Friesen, Danielle Steer (2), Cara Griffin, Anna Rockett, Erin Van Dolder, Caleigh Boeckx, and Hannah Saidi.

With a particularly strong squad at their disposal this season, Treaty will be hoping to deliver another dominant performance and progress deep into the tournament. The fixture is scheduled for the weekend ending Sunday, June 29th.

Busy Weeks Ahead for the Markets Field

The Markets Field is set for a hectic stretch of action, with five Treaty United home fixtures scheduled in quick succession, making it a key period for both the men's and women's teams.

It all kicks off this Saturday, June 7th, when Treaty United Women welcome Northern Irish side Glentoran Women in their final group stage match of the All-Island Cup. With progression on the line, it promises to be a competitive and high-stakes encounter.

That fixture is followed by a home double-header the following weekend. On Friday, June 13th, Treaty United’s senior men will take on Bray Wanderers in a crucial First Division clash. Less than 24 hours later, on Saturday, June 14th, the women's team will host Wexford FC in league action, a vital fixture as the season heats up.

A week of away games will then see Treaty United men travel to face Dundalk on Friday, June 20th, while the women's side head to Dublin the next day to take on Bohemians on Saturday, June 21st.

The action returns to the Markets Field the following Monday, June 23rd, as the men’s side face Wexford FC. That Friday, June 29th, Treaty welcome Finn Harps, before the busy stretch wraps up with the women’s FAI Cup tie against Ferns United over the weekend.

With FAI Cup ambitions, league points, and cross-border competition all in play, Limerick football fans have a thrilling month ahead.

10 Things We've Learnt About Treaty United This Season

By Emma Dineen As the League of Ireland First Division heads well beyond the midway point, Treaty United find themselves at a crucial juncture. With a mix of promise, challenges, and intriguing storylines unfolding, the 2025 campaign has been anything but dull for the Markets Field faithful. From a solid defense to a squad that’s arguably too big, and a star midfielder carrying much of the goal-scoring burden, the first half of the season has given me plenty to think about. Here are 10 things I’ve personally observed about Treaty United so far, and what I believe they mean for their ambitions moving forward… (All Photos From KBD Photos) 1. A Rock-Solid Defensive Spine Keeps Treaty Ticking While much of the chatter around Treaty United in 2025 has focused on their attacking output, it’s the backline that’s provided the real foundation for consistency. A settled core four of Ben Lynch, Eóin Martin, Robbie Lynch, and Evan O’Connor has emerged as the preferred starting four, with Corey Cha...

Playoffs Slipping Through The Fingers: A Turning Point For Treaty?

By Emma Dineen All opinions expressed are 100% my own, unless stated otherwise. It’s been a rough few weeks for Treaty United. Draws upon losses and no league win since early July. With just eight games left, the pressure isn’t just building, it’s biting. Even the online chatter has shifted. Back in spring, fans were buzzing about playoff pushes and the squad’s potential. Now? The conversation is sharper. Criticism of tactics, team selection, even the club’s direction is bubbling up. After nearly five years, the honeymoon period is seemingly coming to a close. Then came Dundalk. What was meant to be another gritty night against the league leaders turned into a collapse for the ages. Treaty’s flaws didn’t just show; they were neon-lit for all to see. Dundalk Run Riot At The Markets Field Just over a month ago, I wrote that Treaty had quietly carved a reputation as one of the league’s trickiest opponents for the big boys. In 2024, Cork City couldn’t lay a glove on them: four meetings, no...

Back for More: Treaty United and Derry City Set for FAI Cup Rematch

By Emma Dineen There’s something different about cup nights in Limerick. The floodlights, the sense of occasion, the chance to defy expectations. This Friday, the Markets Field will once again play host to that magic, as Treaty United welcome Premier Division heavyweights Derry City in a mouth-watering Second Round tie in the 2025 Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup. A Rivalry Reignited The backdrop to this clash is rich in recent drama. The last time these two sides met in the FAI Cup was in October 2022, under the lights at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium. On that occasion, Derry struck early, with Jamie McGonigle and Brandon Kavanagh putting them 2–0 up inside 16 minutes. Enda Curran pulled one back from the penalty spot after Jack Lynch was fouled, but despite a late surge from the visitors, including a near miss from William Armshaw, Treaty fell just short. Derry marched on to the final, where they would eventually lift the trophy. Two years later, the roles are reversed in some ways....
